The online CBCT Level 1 course that waits for you.

Nine modules · 7 hours verifiable CPD · certificate

If you refer patients for CBCT scans, or your practice has a scanner, Level 1 training is not optional — UK guidance requires it. This is that training: nine modules, online, in as many sittings as you like, with a numbered certificate at the end that anyone can verify.

01 — Why we built it

You've got better things to do. Learn it when it suits you.

We sell CBCT scanners for a living, and we see the same thing every time: the machine goes in, the team learns the buttons, and the formal training gets postponed — because it usually means a Saturday in a hotel, three counties away.

So we built it online. Twenty minutes at a time if that is all you have — it stops where you stopped and picks up there next time.

Seven hours of verifiable enhanced CPD, mapped to GDC development outcomes C and D.

02 — What's in it

Nine modules · 87 slides · quiz after each one

Written from scratch, and checked line by line.

Every dose figure, regulation reference and image was written for this course and verified before it went in.

01Introduction
What CBCT is, what it is not, and where it sits next to conventional radiography.
02Justification
When a cone beam scan is the right answer, and when it is a reflex you should resist.
03IR(ME)R
The regulations in plain English — the duty holders, the entitlements, and what falls on you.
04Referrals & GDPR
Taking a referral, keeping the record, and handling the data properly.
05Physics & dose
Enough physics to make sense of dose, and honest comparisons rather than reassuring ones.
06Resolution & field of view
Voxel size, FOV selection, and the trade-off you make every time you scan.
07Anatomy
Normal anatomy in three planes — what you should expect to see before you worry about what you should not.
08Artefacts
Why scans go wrong. Scatter, beam hardening, motion, metal, and how to avoid them.
09Cases
Putting it together on real cases, and knowing the point at which you refer.
03 — How it works

Sign up, work through it, get certified.

Step one

Name, email and GDC number — the number goes on your certificate, so get it right. You’ll also confirm you hold five hours of radiography and radiation protection CPD from the last five years — your standard IRMER CPD.

Step two

Work through

Modules unlock in order. Five questions at the end of each one, four to pass. Stop and restart whenever you like.

Step three

Final exam

Fifteen questions drawn at random, twelve to pass. Get it wrong and you can sit it again — as many times as you need.

Step four

Certificate

A numbered PDF, emailed to you and stored in your account. Anyone can check it is real at learn.360v.co.uk/verify.

04 — What it costs

One price. No subscription.

You buy the course once and it is yours. There is no monthly fee, no renewal, and nothing that quietly rebills you in a year.

Compare it honestly: a day course is usually £300 to £500 once you have added the train, the hotel and a lost surgery day. This is £195 and costs you no clinical time at all.

Every member of the team can take it — but each person needs their own account, because CPD certificates are personal and have to name the individual.

VAT is added at checkout.

05 — When you want your hands on a dataset

In person · West Yorkshire · led by Dr Ed Walker

Level 1 teaches you the principles. Reporting is a different skill.

Once you know what you are looking at, the next question is how to report the whole volume and write it up. That is taught in person by Dr Ed Walker, Consultant Dental & Maxillofacial Radiologist, at Octagon House near Keighley — hands-on datasets, live positioning on Carestream and Acteon machines, and a report writing masterclass. Fifteen delegates maximum.

A separate course, run and taught by Dr Walker. The online Level 1 above is ours, and is not part of his programme — but it is a sound grounding before you attend either.

Fri 22 January 2027

In-person Level 2 · one day

The reporting day on its own, for dentists who have already completed an in-person CBCT Level 1 course.

06 — Aims, objectives and what you get

Aims and objectives.

Aim: to give dental professionals a sound working knowledge of cone beam computed tomography — how it works, when it is justified, what the regulations require, and how to interpret what a scan shows.

On completing this course you will be able to:

  • Explain how CBCT differs from conventional dental radiography, and where each is appropriate
  • Apply the principles of justification and optimisation to a request for a cone beam scan
  • Describe the duty holders and responsibilities set out in IR(ME)R, and identify which apply to you
  • Handle referrals and patient imaging data lawfully
  • Relate exposure factors, voxel size and field of view to dose and image quality
  • Recognise normal anatomy of the jaws and adjacent structures in three planes
  • Identify common artefacts, explain their causes and take steps to reduce them
  • Recognise the limits of your own competence and know when to refer a scan for a specialist radiology report

Development outcomes C and D. Seven hours of verifiable enhanced CPD. Suitable for dentists, dental nurses, hygienists, therapists and practice managers. No prior CBCT experience is assumed.

Everything, for the one price.

Nine modules, 87 slides, yours for good
A quiz after every module, so nothing is assumed
Fifteen-question final exam, unlimited retakes
Numbered certificate, publicly verifiable
7 hours verifiable enhanced CPD, GDC outcomes C & D
A resources section on buying, running and servicing a CBCT

Questions we're expecting

Is this verifiable CPD?

Yes. Seven hours of verifiable enhanced CPD, mapped to GDC development outcomes C and D. Combined with your standard five hours of radiography and radiation protection CPD, this completes the 12 hours of Level 1 training recommended by the 2020 Guidance Notes. You complete the modules, pass the exam, fill in the feedback form, and the certificate is issued with a number anyone can check at learn.360v.co.uk/verify.

How long do I have to finish it?

As long as you like. Access does not expire. The course remembers where you stopped, so twenty minutes between patients is a perfectly reasonable way to do it.

Do I need a CBCT machine?

No. Plenty of people take this before they buy one, or because they refer scans out and want to understand what comes back. If you are weighing up a scanner, the resources section at the end covers what they cost to buy and to run.

Can my whole team do it?

Yes, and they should — nurses included. Each person needs their own account, because a CPD certificate has to name the individual and carry their GDC number.

What if I fail the exam?

You sit it again. There is no limit and no extra charge. The questions are drawn at random from a pool, so you will not simply see the same fifteen.

Is this the same as the course Dr Ed Walker runs?

No. This online course is ours. Dr Walker's in-person courses at Octagon House are his, and go further — into hands-on reporting and report writing. They complement each other, and the section above tells you where to book his.

We bought our scanner from you. Do we really get it free?

Yes — two free places come with every scanner we have supplied, whenever you bought it. Email hello@360v.co.uk or ring 01943 601222 and we will send your codes. Putting more of the team through? Ring us and we will sort a sensible team price.
